Straight
Fight between BN and STAR candidates in N2. Tasik Biru The
N2. Tasik Biru Constituency sees a straight fight between the
Barisan Nasional incumbent Encik Peter Nansien ak Ngusie and
a new face from Sarawak Reform Party (STAR) En. Joseph Jindy
ak Peter Rosen.
En Peter Nasien with about a thousand
BN supporters , many of them wearing the t-shirts bearing En.
Peter potrait and the BN symbol, march through the town centre
and arrived at the nomination centre at the Bau Civic
Centre at 9.30 am. Accompanied by his proposor En. Tan Hock
Heng ,seconder
 En.
Nyotik ak Moseng and legal advisor Mr. H.C. Lee, En Peter
filed in his nomination paper to the presiding officer En. Watt
Lanyau Entaban at 9.40 am. The STAR candidate with
only a handful of supporters carrying the party's banners arrived
at about 10 am The unfamiliar face to many who present
at the centre, En. Joseph Jindy, aged 35 hails from Kampung
Tembawang Sauh. He is a businessman with a diploma in electronic
engineering from ITM. He filed in his nomination paper at 9.52
am. His proposer is En. Akim ak Randep and the seconder is En.
Thien ak Nyumay.
 An
unusual happening at the centre among the two candidates kept
the members of the press and the supporters of two parties into
wild speculation, as the two were having an one and a
half hour closed-door "negotiation" (as some
of them called it) at one of the rest room at the civic centre,
soon after they had filed in their nomination papers. The gesture
also sent both the proposer and seconder of En. Jospeh feel
uneasy and waiting anxiously outside. However, it was a relief
to all those who were waiting impatiently outside that the two
candidate finally emerged from the room with a relaxing
mood at the end of the objection time.
 When
questioned by the press, En Peter Nansien revealed that they
were just having a friendly chat and En. Joseph
also denied that there is a "negotiation" of some
time going on. The result of the nomination was finally announced
by the presiding officer at 12.45 pm.. Observers predicted that
it would be an easy fight for En. Peter without the strong opponent
Dr. patau Rubis . During the last state lection, En Peter
Nansien defeated Dr. Patau with a 1,575 votes majority.
En. Peter obtained 6,049 votes as against D. Patau's 4,474 votes.
However, En, Peter commented that with or without Dr. Patau
as opponent, the BN campaigners will work as hard as ever, and
he urged the supporters not to be complacent. He told the voters
that it is not whom they should vote, but to decide on
weather they want to vote for the BN which could bring continuous
development to the constituency to benefit the people or for
the opposition that they are doubtful of what it can do for
them. "As a rural or sub-urban constituency, Bau still
need a lot of development.
 Thus,
their only choice is to support the BN government . In fact
I have been telling the people on this point over the last five
years. " he commented.
