A Glorious End Awaits Sarawak-Level SEA Games Run

The SEA Games torch, which has been criss-crossing Sarawak, will be given a grand welcome when it reaches here tomorrow for the final leg of the state-level SEA Games Run. The torch is scheduled to arrive at Padang Merdeka in the heart of the city at 4.30pm.

Sarawak's Social Development and Urbanisation Minister Datuk Dr James Jemut Masing is expected to attend the final leg of the run along with several other ministers and senior government officers. This morning, the torch was handed over to state National Unity and Community Development Deputy Minister Dr Tiki Lafe by Kuching Resident Hillary Mukit Guruh at the Lundu Mini Stadium.

It was then passed to teacher Sabir Suntak who, accompanied by Rela members, big bikers and voluntary runners, took it to the Lundu ferry point for the crossing to Bau town.

On hand to accept the torch in Bau was Tasik Biru state assemblyman Peter Nansian Ngusie, who received it from Lundu District Officer Edward Sadai Anja.Nansian then handed the torch to athlete Donovan Boniface who carried it to the Bau Civic Centre.

Tomorrow, Women Affairs and Welfare Assistant Minister Datin Paduka Sharifah Mordiah Tuanku Fauzi will attend the handing over ceremony for the torch at Dewan Masyarakat in Kampung Santubong, some 27km from here, before it makes its way to the state capital.

From Kuching, the torch will be flown to Langkawi for the peninsula leg of the run which will end in Kuala Lumpur for the opening of the Games in September.
